PAIGE Lewis died three days before a life-saving bone marrow transplant from her brother.
Little Paige had leukaemia, but her family say she was so brave and bright that, until the last weeks, most people would never have even known she was ill.
Paige had the biggest personality a four-year-old has ever seen and was clever beyond her years with the ability to list all the technically named medications she was taking and what time they were due.
Even after she had been diagnosed, Paige adored the limelight and longed to be centre of attention. She would clap her hands and demand an impromptu solo performance of You Are My Sunshine, complete with stool to stand on and whichever fancy dress outfit was close to hand.
Paige was born at Liverpool Women's Hospital in 1998.
She lived a healthy four years until shortly after the birth of her brother and favourite playmate, Owen, in 2002. She contracted chickenpox but never recovered and it was discovered she had leukaemia.
Paige travelled to America, France and Malta before Owen was born and now they say it was as if they knew Paige would not live long, explaining her action-packed early years.
Paige was a perfectionist even as a small child. She ensured her mum, Gill, dressed her in matching clothes at all times, even around the house. A non-colour co-ordinated outfit would simply not do.
Paige attended pre-school and reception at Our Lady of Assumption junior school, Hedgefield Road, Gateacre, where the family lived. A memorial garden containing four rose plants alongside a plaque was erected in her memory at the school.
And family and friends have raised £8,000 to date for the Make a Wish Foundation, which played a major role during Paige's treatment.
Mum Gill said: "Paige was so brave and strong. She never complained. My last words to her were that she would soon be playing with the angels.
"Although the massive gap cannot ever be replaced, Owen and myself are rebuilding our lives. We never stop thinking about Paige. She was my special little girl who I love and miss so much."
